Helpful tips for new members and guests! - Pdaaaawg - 03-31-2012 06:08 PM

Hello and welcome to The King of Hate Forums!

This thread is here to give you the full rundown of what you can do here in The King of Hate forums!

Let's get started, shall we?

Okay, I like the look of the site, but I'm not sure if I want to join. What can I do without being a member?
Well, first of all, how dare you not being sure if you want to be a member of this wonderful site! But seriously, you can:
  • Still browse the forums.
AND THAT'S IT!

Alright then, I'm a member, what should I do first?
Excellent! Now the forums is your oyster! Now that you are member, we shall take baby steps!
  • Before you do ANYTHING, you should check out the forum rules here. That way, you don't do anything stupid while you're here. Rules are here for a reason, so don't break them!
  • First off, you should create a new thread in this "Welcome" section. This is a great way to begin making new friends in the DSP community. To create a new thread, you go to the pretty blue button near the top of the page that says "New Thread". From there, you can add a title, a description, heck, even a little icon! Big Grin Just say a few words, describing yourself and how you met DSP! Simple!
  • You can check out all the other sections on the site. Each area of the site is divided into different categories, "Announcements and News", "DarksydePhil and co.", "Gaming Discussion", "Photo and Video", and "Off Topic". These are all split into sub categories, each with a small description to describe it. You can check them out just like before you were a member only this time...
  • YOU CAN POST! That's right, now you can have your say on anything you feel like. Just type in the text box, send and there you go! Just remember to post responsibly.
  • You can edit your profile, giving an official description of yourself. This is also a great way of connecting with other forum members through social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube and through gaming with Xbox Live, PSN and Steam.
  • If you do get stuck and you need help with something, don't be afraid to ask a moderator for assistance. You can get a full list of our moderators here.

All of these other forum members have such pretty avatars and signatures! How can I get them?
Well, that's quite simple. This is all you need to do:
  • Once you hit a certain amount of posts (12), then you can have your very own avatar (small picture under your name) and signature (bigger logo under all your posts)!
  • From here, you go to your profile and change your avatar and signature to anything you please, if it is appropriate of course! All you need to do, is upload a picture file and there you go! Alternatively, you can add text to your signature!
  • If you feel like you want to go one step further, you can ask one of our talented designers on the forum to MAKE you an avatar/signature here. Best of all, IT'S FREE! But don't forget to "rep" them!

"Rep"?
Oh yes! "Rep" is short for "Reputation" and is used to thank someone for something that they did. Whether it's a positive post or a useful thread, reps are used to boost someone's moral and show the forums just how nice or dedicated a forum member is. Alternatively, you can negatively rep someone if they are annoying you on purpose and this shows the opposite of positively reping someone, that a forum user is annoying and is bothering someone. Just remember to use this system responsibly, as there is a 2 rep limit per day. So use them wisely!

So how can I interact with everyone on the forum?
There are plenty of ways to interact with us here on the forums!
  • Being a very active user is an easy step, as if you like to get your opinion across, then you will get noticed by people.
  • Similarly, being active in a certain part of the forum is also a good way to interact with people. You could be very active in sections such as Anime, Wrestling, or Sports. We try to satisfy everyone here!
  • Don't be shy to visit our chatroom at anytime. There is always someone there, happy to have a chat with you!
  • If you want to have individual chats with people, then you can comment on their profile or Private Message (or PM) them!
  • Finally, you can really interact by checking out our official Podcast! Here, you can take a listen to what has been happening in our forums each week. You can help out by submitting artwork or even volunteering to speak on the podcast! If you want anymore information, you can contact....me!

Okay, well thanks for the assista....
Oh, but we're not done! If you do enjoy being on the site and want to continue supporting the growth of it, then you can become Premium.
