What is the thing you like most about anime/manga?

Recommended Posts

As mentioned, the best advantage of anime (and animation in general) is that it can envision realities that are less constrained by live action limits, so in principle, it can take better advantage of the human imagination. The ability of animation to bend reality can be used to humorous, creepy, or exciting effect.

I like the "clearness" "cleanness" of it the most I think. Some would translate it perhaps as "2dness"

Its the escape from a boring messy everyday reality to a clean cut, "squared" anime world with only superficial emotional attachment. Every movie or most western made anime - like cartoons look grimmy, dirty, "used" and empty in comparison.

Some anime also have a "healing" effect

Like madoka magica?

What I like about anime is that it easier for me to watch in terms of volume, most other shows I can't really watch for long or it just seems dumb. I also like how you can have Lucky Star, the Seinfeld of anime and there isn't a laugh track put in. I like Seinfeld but I hate how western live action shows are quick to put a laugh track in and now that has become the norm. As for western cartoons the only ones I have been vaugly following were adventure time and rick and morty. Also western shows are quick to put pop culture or memes as quick and easy jokes, they probably do that with anime but since I don't know much about their pop culture it is fin by me.

With manga I really like brush strokes and how it is generally black and white as opposed to being super colorful and over bearing.

Each draws his "healing" effect from a different anime although I d say most get it from non violent ones. I m thinking something like "working!!!" Or seemingly lighthearted slice of life anime or even wacky ecchi anime like Japanese shows like shimokitazawa glory days.

Western sitcoms are appalling. I was " watching" one the other day. An obese white cop was married to an equally obese woman had a black cop friend and predictable situations occurred in a cardboard universe. Blah.

I was kind of joking with the "healing effect" thing. Gen Urobuchi, the director of Madoka, said that he wanted it to be a healing anime, then of course you have to make it really dark and depressing.

Serious and good plot. Sadly, not many series have these, for example no shonen anime has it. The ones I mean are Madoka, Steins;Gate, Parasyte, Monster, Lychee Light Club, Spice and Wolf (mainly the ranobes) and other stuff like that.

Since not many series fill my number 1 requirement, I also have another. T&A, loads of silly fanservice with or without a good plot, just good character designs is enough. Dance in the Vampire Bund is an example of a good plot (not the anime, never seen it), while stuff like Monster Musume, Queen's Blade and others are good due to their design and no stupid (read, Shonen) plotlines. Too much violence and seriousness ruins it, like Ikki Tousen. Hated it with a deep burning passion.

Spice and Wolf without a doubt is probably one of my favorite series. Such a well designed story with characters who just made that series. Always wanted to read the VN.

You have read the manga, right? I read the manga and absolutely loved it, Holo was just so cutely cruel there ^^... Then I read the original book series. Daaaarn, Holo is no longer any bit cute in my eyes, be warned. The books are awesomely written, and I enjoy them a lot, but Holo is much more cruel and inhumane in them.

It still has the best or second best written straight romance in any anime/manga series I know of.

Nah, I read the light novels back when the anime first came out. Immediately fell in love with how intricate the story was and the interaction between Holo and Lawrence was incredible to read and watch. And yeah I think it's probably the best written romance series ever made, haven't really found a series that ever reached that epitome of romance ever again.  Someday I'll re-read the LN's again.

My mind so wasn't prepared for the LN:s to be honest ^^. Gotta say they are one of my fav books I have read and I do so agree on the Holo/Lawrence interaction being so well written. I oughta finish reading the LN:s, but I think they are still coming out in english?

I dunno which straight romance is my absolute favorite, Holo/Lawrence or  the one in Steins;Gate (anime/manga, haven't even nearly finished the VN)? Spice and Wolf had "more time" spent on the romance, but Steins;Gate felt somehow just right and realistic too. My views might be biased because I rate Steins;Gate in the top 5 series ever easily ^^... Then again, I do like the Dance in the Vampire Bund romance too, but that's still ongoing, and the current "ending" I did dislike.

The LN's are in english somewhere, I downloaded them all from some website, but that was probably 7-8 years ago back when the anime first came out. Though I do search up most of my music by typing in [Artist Album Zip/Rar], I'm pretty sure if you want to search up the LN's you can type in pdf instead and a DL file should come up somewhere. I'm too lazy to look. Sorry.

My old laptop had all the LN's downloaded but the hard drive gave out so I had to switch it out and lo-and-behold I lost pretty much everything that was in there (which was probably all of my HS stuff along with A little bit of University stuff) luckily didn't lose any MS stuff which is nice.

Steins;Gate is a favorite as well. I liked the whole dramatic feel of it and the slow pacing was a fresh take in a digital media world where we want things to be handed over to us on a platter. It also gave off the whole mystery vibe as well, which is probably why it's one of my favorites.

Never read Dance in the Vampire Bund. I'll look into a plot summary and maybe check it out. Need a new book to read anyways.

Meeh, I just have to legally own them, I work in the anime/manga business, would be really immoral for me to get illegal copies of stuff I like (and I would lose the right to morally judge my customers for reading stuff online ^^). Not to mention, they look awesome in the bookshelf. About the whole reading online issue, my personal view is that I check out series online and if I like them, I buy them physically if possible.

After my brand new drawing laptop went poof after less than 3 weeks of usage, I learned to upload all my important stuff to a Dropbox. Even though the pics I lost sucked (my first drawings ever, aww ^^), I still sorta miss 'em. At least I learned something from that ordeal. Good thing you lost nothing of real importance that couldn't be aquired again.

I think Dance in the Vampire Bund has some LN:s, I got a few in my shelf too... I mainly like the manga though (anime seemed ok, but alas I lack the time for those), it's a "modern" day vampire/werewolf action love story with quite a high amount of questionable ecchi content. One of those "buy for the ecchi, get hooked on plot" series for me. That series caused my figurine hoarding hobby too, so many years back ^^

Oh wow that's pretty cool that you work in the industry. Thought about doing something like that back then, but found my true calling once I entered university. And yeah, I can agree with what you're saying. Hope you find it somewhere online. Amazon hasn't let me down yet.

Yeah, I just have a huge 5TB hard drive that I keep most of my important stuff in now. I've barely filled it up at all, but it should be enough space. I also have a keynote as well where I order all my books now.

Interesting, if the plot is pretty good, then it should overshadow the ecchi content. I'll read into it when I can. Ha.. I wish I could hoard figurines, I only hoard text books now :/.

I'd say the characters and the cutesy magical creatures.

Like alot of youths, I'm not a fan, of pervy, weird, adult content type anime. Especially those, created by strange old people though. Lol!
