Japanese jams

Recommended Posts

I don´t really know what to call the genre, just that it´s Japanese, sounds electronic and is cute. Basically like this, my top 3 Shibayan songs:

Who else listens to stuff like this?

I don't listen to that specific genre, unfortunately, but perhaps I'll give them a full listen later. I previewed those songs and they seem like decent songs to just mellow out to. By the way, the second and third links are the same, I think you accidentally pasted the same song twice.

If it counts for anything, though, I've acquired somewhat of a guilty pleasure to j-pop and j-rock after getting more into anime. I'm one of those guys who rarely skips the OP in anime, it helps me get into the mood for watching the episode.

I've probably talked about One-Punch Man too much recently, but here's an example of how to do a proper tribute video. From what I'm to understand, it's an original song made by some fans of the manga, but they did a great job composing an exciting song and choosing appropriate images from the manga to match it. The only problem is the Engrish mixed in with the Japanese, but it doesn't take away from the overall impact much.

I saw this before starting the manga and I think it contributed to my decision to start reading it:

Haha, welcome to the club. Thanks to that video, I don't think I'll ever be able to unhear the bit about cocks.

I don't think I have any Japanese electronic music to share, but there are many Japanese songs from anime that I've enjoyed. I'll start with two very different picks:

Joe Hisaishi is probably my favorite composer in the anime industry. Many of his songs have a deep emotional resonance with me, and this one is no exception. I can't imagine Studio Ghibli films having the same magic without his work.

This second song may reflect some of my bias, as Psycho-Pass is one of my favorite anime of all time. Regardless, I genuinely think it's a catchy alternative rock song, which also does something rare in anime: pronounce the English words fairly well. I think the English is perfectly understandable, but one guy in the comments typed a funny alternative version:

I would like some lunch

cut open my fridge

look into my bag

I don't know why I'm so starved

I am so parched

I've got enough cash

HAAAAPPPY MEEEAAAAL

I can always give my small french fries to YOOOOOOOOU

If this soft drink was for me, inside I peer, spill my bear

KETCHUP PACKETS

one toy to join it ALLLLLL

again...

HAAAAPPPY MEEEAAAAL

I can always give my small french fries to YOOOOOOOOU

If this soft drink was for me, inside I peer, spill my bear

KETCHUP PACKETS

one toy to join it ALLLLLL

IT'S GOING GOOD

again...

1:03 - 1:15 Sounds exactly like a Naruto Shippuden soundtrack! I love it, it's beautiful.

Can't see the Psycho Pass vid, not available in my country. But i guess i should be glad since you were going to ruin it for me again with weird lyrics lol.

I think this thread should just be about Japanese music in general, screw restrictions lol. But if anyone has any reccomendations for the more electronicy stuff, please let me know!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPSTw1f1pw4   So many tears during this anime, btw. Definitely reccomend it.

Looks like Funimation blocked the vid in your country. I just edited it with a different link.

Your link isn't working because Youtube says that the account was terminated, but I managed to catch the link before it went down. As for Your Lie in April, I'm not sure I want to see that one yet. I've heard good things about it, and it's probably doing something right if it's ranked 13 on Myanimelist, but my anime backlog is already quite large. I'll decide later.

Here are two more songs, I'm going with some jazz this time:

I looked up Baccano!, because that opening video is just really cool, going to watch a few episodes of that tonight. Sounds really good.

Also, Your Lie in April definitely deserves a ranking as high as that imo. It's dramatic, endearing, sad, happy, etc, it hit me in all of my feels. I really reccommend it. Let's just say that the thought of watching a kid playing piano didn't seem interesting to me at all (the protagonist plays classical piano), but they managed to have me feel a lot of emotion everytime a chord was struck. Nice pun, huh?

Here's a little Yui: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToRu3FTirak
Known because she did an opening and ending for Bleach, but her albums are good in general too.

Cool, glad to introduce you to the show. People often compare Baccano to Quentin Tarantino's films, so if you've seen and enjoyed any of those, you have some idea of what you're getting into. It's got the same exaggerated hyperviolence, dark humor, and energy that Tarantino's films do. There's also a sense of mystery because it involves the plotlines of multiple characters, which are connected in some way, but you're not sure how until later.

I'm not a huge music buff, but after watching Western films like Whiplash (a highly uplifting film that quickly secured its place as one of my all-time favorites) and Frank, and watching the anime Sakamichi No Apollon (known as Kids on the Slope in the west), I became more appreciative towards the stories of musicians. These stories can be some of the most inspiring dramas, and though it's a common trope, you can't help but be moved when the protagonist pours their heart into a single, perfect performance. Your Lie in April sounds like that kind of story, so I'm considering watching it eventually.

Speaking of Sakamichi No Apollon, that's also has a good musical anime with a good opening. I'll link it here, sorry for the less-than-ideal sound quality:

Serial Experiments Lain is by far the weirdest anime i've seen.

Question, how do you embed Youtube videos?

I liked it but I'm pretty sure I didn't fully understand what it was trying to say. Nonetheless, it's still enjoyable when viewed as a quirky coming of age story.

To embed videos, just try pasting the link, then starting a new paragraph after the link. The link should automatically change to a video thumbnail.

I was going to link that eventually, haha. It's a great song to pump you up, the kind of song you'd listen to before charging into a battle or something. It fits perfectly with Berserk.

I haven't seen the anime, but the Berserk manga is pretty good. Unfortunately, I lost my patience and dropped it because the writer was taking breaks that were far too long, but I heard it recently got back to monthly updates.

The manga is quite popular and ranked number one on Myanimelist, so I guess it's doing something right. If you like dark fantasy, adventure, extreme violence and taboo, interesting characters, and revenge, you'll like Berserk.

Just be warned: this anime is not afraid to touch every corner of human depravity. Extreme violence and gore, torture, rape, incest, human-demon bestiality, mental trauma... you name it, it's all there. It's not for the faint of heart.

On a lighter note:
