Suggestions for upcoming King of Hate Forums rebrand.

Everything you just suggested benefits the very troll accounts we're talking about.

and no, a waiting period doesn't work. It just means a troll has to wait an extra day before they can join the forum.

Read it again, a waiting period wherein a mod has to approve your account. See how reading the entire sentence helps?

And no, my suggestions help with fair moderation. Trolls will still be in violation of the rules. I don't care whose forum it is, only extreme cases should be instant permaban worthy. Hate speech, obvious trolling, harassment, etc. By obvious trolling I mean obvious, like coming in and throwing insults around for no reason, not just a new account posting criticism of something Phil did or said. Why would anyone want to join a forum where you're met with hostility and suspicion simply because you're new?

I already did, it says the mods will approve it after the waiting period is up. How does that prove they aren't a troll? It doesn't.

They should provide a means of proof like a paid email, social media account or such so the moderator knows this isn't their 12th account.

KGHaleon I just looked at your post history and the majority is Random Thoughts or about trolls. Why not make a Twitter account since thats like the Mecca of random thoughts?

and what does twitter have to do with this forum?

...because the moderators actually have to review and approve the account. That's what the waiting period is for. To get approval from the moderation team. Who will check for things like email addresses from throwaway sites, disguised IPs, IPs from previously banned accounts, etc. I think you need to brush up on your reading comprehension.

So are you just agreeing with me? Your original response is unclear then.

Get an approval process in place.

How about creating an separate part of the forum (just like the Patron area), were members users who reach a minimum requirement e.g. Advanced Member status who want to get away from being trolled by anti-Phil nutjobs can go, meanwhile Public part of the forum can still be used by New members.

That would definitely get rid of the trolls. Gamefaqs does that with their social boards.

Unfortunately that means most of the forum members would post there and new members weren't really be able to interact with us. I'd like to see trolls filtered out, not actual legit members.

My original response was "waiting period with mod approval" you interpreted that as just a waiting period. If I had known I had to spell out what that meant in excruciating detail I would've done so the first time. My bad.

Also @WOOF! that's a terrible idea. People are already hostile towards new members on this version of the forums, now you want to segregate them? Gee, really makes folks feel welcome doesn't it?

That would be a good idea WOOF! if there were more than 3 frequent Advanced Members on this forum. The problem is the number of frequent users of this forum is low. This forum needs more members, restricting them from posting after all the other things that you have to deal with when joining this forum will never produce new members. If people just want to talk uncontested for their thoughts and views on things then maybe a chatroom or a private sub-reddit would be better suited.

We could still access the Public area as well, legit members would build up their reputation at times goes by, trolls wouldn't have the patience to stick it out so long without giving themselves away, as they would want to show off to their fellow morons.

Yeah it's a nice idea.

Though back when I was a patron we had the patreon only section of the forum, but nobody really posted there.

I disagree, they still get to access the forum freely, but long time members get their own area away from being targeted, it would sort out the genuine members from the chaff.

There is more than 3 Advanced Members + higher, but I concede there should be more, if special perks are offered for the Advanced Members+ part of the forum, then that could be an incentive for new members to use the forum more often, new members could still use the Public area with the current rules.

Not much has changed since lol, but if special perks were introduced for the new area, for example Phil could post episodes of DSP tries it a day earlier in the exclusive part of the forum and unlike the patreon debacle it would take a lot more effort for trolls than paying a dollar/pound, members could post up video game codes they aren't bothered about e.g. a costume code for Secret of Mana which I have, it could be a mini internet version of the Freemasons.

I agree if DSP promoted the forums a bit more and offer better perks, people could be funneled to come here. Yet, I think the best way to increase members is the organic way via good conversations, good people, good forum layout, and most importantly the allowance of free-thought. Such things like detractor related content or insulting Phil multiple times should result in some sort of penalty, but things such as thoughtful and constructive criticism towards Phil and his content should be welcomed to make him and his content better. Lastly the definition of troll needs to be defined and outlined clearly in the forum rules. Right now, I know KGHaleon thinks im a troll because A. Im new, and B. My thoughts don't align with his. Those are not good reasons to throw me in with the rest of the trolls and detractors like im equal to what they do on a daily basis just because you don't agree with me. Food for thought.

My suggestions:

  • Clear, logical rules that everyone, including Phil, has to follow. No one is above the rules.
    • Meaning examples of what constitutes trolling and what constitutes criticism
  • A moderation team that actually uses the warnings system and temp bans, no more of every minor infraction being an instant permaban.
    • Maybe a three strikes system for trolling and the like. First infraction is a warning with a clear explanation of what you did wrong, second is a 24 hour temp ban, third is a permaban.

I 100% agree with that. There are several actions not formally written in the rules that most people agree is not accepted. Backseat modding, harassment, false reporting, and IMO the biggest one is revealing or prying into peoples Personal affairs.

However I don't agree with the three strike rule. That implies that accidentally double posting three times equals a perma ban. It should be based on the severity of the of the infraction.

How about this? If you make a simple mistake like posting in the wrong section you get a simple reminder. If you ignore those reminders repeatedly or if you behavior poorly (Insulting others) you get an official warning. 3 warnings within a specific period and you're out no exceptions. Serious infractions such as posting links to illegal software, pornography, threats, and revealing of private information is an instant ban. New users are on a probation period where there is more pressure on them to follow the rules.

I faintly recall us being over this before. Instantly pointing fingers at new users being trolls just because their new shouldn't be allowed and the mods agreed with me on that.

They could be trolls. But they can also be lurkers or legit new fans. Only the mods have the authority to make that decision. BTW they have the ability to check IPs so there's your verification process. They either aren't doing their job, or they are and you need to stop being so paranoid.

What we really need is more mods. We only have 2 and they can't be around all day. We need a mod team from a mix of time zones.

Like who?

With all the prior mods that turned rogue and became anti-dsp, I would hope it would be extremely trustworthy people otherwise you're just handing the forum to the wolves.

History shows that all the prior selections were poor ones.

I've been hearing lately that DSP made someone a mod on his twitch chat and that person has apparently been unbanning detractors.

Another thing. No more closing or deleting of threads that don't violate the rules. For example there was no reason for the thread regarding shorter pre-streams should have been closed. It was legit feedback and there was no insults or trolling. Just because Phil didn't like the idea doesn't mean people can't discuss it.

What was the reason the previous mods went rogue?

From what I recall, people complained that Phil was too ban happy. The mods responded by asking that Phil request that they ban someone instead of doing it himself and if he were to ban someone himself they'd leave because they got tired of him not letting them moderate the way the saw fit. He banned someone himself because they didn't deem his requests ban worthy and most left. A couple stayed behind to bring the forums down in flames. Hence, the forums we have now.

So i guess this isn't gonna happen then..

It's a bit rich certain posters here who are rude to Phil, and have two accounts, are demanding rule changes left and right.

Wonder if those two posters who got nominated for mods would be up for it. Would make this place a lot safer.

If you're trying to insinuate the MoistCucumber and I are the same person, you'd be wrong. What would really make this place safer is fewer conspiracy theories.

I actually PM'd him about that because I thought the same thing, he was actually talking about someone else.
