What will it take for Youtube video comments to be enabled?

Recommended Posts

Firstly, I'd like to say that if Youtube comments being enabled on all his previous videos and upcoming videos until at least the end of 2021 should've been a reward for one of the century vest streak celebrations. If it was a reward for a vest streak of 500, I think that the vest streak could've kept going strong... Now let's say there's an open checkbook allocated to such a goal, what would be the figure that would persuade DSP? I think that most of the dislikes on his videos come from the fact that you can't comment on them and this scenario gives fuel to the troll channels, which do have the comments enabled on their videos.

From a purely algorithmic standpoint, disabling the comments reduces engagement which in turn reduces views, ultimately leading to a decline in revenue. "Negative" comments are still better than no comments. Also, Youtube has a new feature that lets content creators choose moderators for the comment section, so unruly comments will be dealt with just as if it was Twitch. In my opinion, comments should only be disabled on videos that have sensitive content. DSP is ultimately just playing videos games...

I don't think anything will change his mind. But old videos with captions enabled and people talking in them definitely do feel like they have more of a "community" thing going on with them then the ones with comments disabled. It doesn't really seem like there is a point to keeping them disabled at this point. But Phil is often slow to change so even if its not a bad idea to re-enable them, it could take years before he actually listens.

Nah. That goal is not happening.

The majority of the comments will be people shit talking DSP irregardless of what happens in the video.

In addition, I have seen people state they just click on the video just to dislike and nothing else.

Lastly, if you want a "sense of community", just join the chat when he is streaming.

You can leave your comments anytime you want on a YT video as opposed to having to show up at the right timeframe for stream. DSP often ignores the chat and won't acknowledge donations under $20, so how does that give one a "sense of community"? You're forgetting that DSP started on Youtube, when there was no streaming. Enabling comments would be a way for him to honor is oldest fans and not give into the trolls.

The most successful streamers were able to turn 'prodding' into a positive thing for them. 'Prodding' is teasing, trolling or kidding around with someone and is not nefarious. The way to handle that is to stand tall and not fold in. Streamers like DSP and Wings of Redemption have utterly put themselves into a fettle position and let the prodding turn into attacks because of their weakness. Constantly taking about how trolls affect you is a weakness.

On top of this, Phil himself mentions that there are people who cannot watch him on stream and only catch up on YouTube so there clearly is an audience and community there who go through his archived and new videos to watch him.

Think it sucks that you need to tip or pay Phil most of the time to catch his attention. He doesn't come on these forums much anymore to interact, Youtube videos are disabled with comments, Twitter he blocks often and (understandably) does not interact too often with fans, he delete his Facebook long ago, Instagram he took a long hiatus from, and Twitch you have to pay in bits or tips to get a comment. You also need to pay patreon to get your question answered for Ask the King, he may not answer your question.

Feel like Phil has advertently sheltered his interaction with the fanbase and makes it that you have to pay to get your voice heard. Even worse for the people who can't attend his streams, how do you even interact with Darksydephil? No more Jack Box Party pack, no live chat in lobbies, all because of a few bad apples. Just sucks. No more play with viewer marathons.
