Characters: Why I like them

Recommended Posts

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen,

The next characters I am talking about are:

Godzilla.thumb.jpg.56a59c3ff1b678f4d6d9c

Gojira aka Godzilla the King of all Monsters

What else can I say about this character than say badass mofo.  To me Godzilla has all the characteristics of a monster.  He's powerful, formidable., cunning, and nearly unstoppable.  Without a doubt in my mind, he is one of the most powerful characters in all of fiction.  I have been a big fan of this character since I was a young boy.  I loved the movies from '80s, didn't care too much about the 1998 film, absolutely loved 2014 film.  Godzilla in my eyes is a classic.

The_Terminator.thumb.jpg.38778a5f7081e5b

The Terminator known as both the T-800 model and T-850 model.

One of my favorite movie characters of all time.  Heck, the Terminator franchise itself is one of my favorite movie franchises of all time.  When I think of Arnold Schwarznegger, I think of the Terminator because to me that is his greatest role ever (plus I'm glad he is out of politics).  I look at the Terminator as a badass mofo that doesn't take shit from people and will continue to keep fighting regardless of the things that don't come his way.  Tough, relentless, & determined.  I'm glad they are continuing the franchise.  I still plan on seeing Terminator Genisys.  Here are my reviews of the previous Terminator movies:

  • Terminator 1: 9/10
  • Terminator 2: 10/10
  • Terminator 3: 7/10
  • Terminator 4: 6.5/10

Personally, I'd wish they'd make an animated series.

James_Bond.thumb.jpg.6a1d9623195c92364ab

James Bond aka 007

"The name is Bond, James Bond.  I'll have a martini, shakin not stirred."  Another one of my favorite movie characters of all time.  When I think of James Bond, I think of Sean Connery because to me he is James Bond & the best.  Don't get me wrong, I do like Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Dalton, & Daniel Craig.  I've been a fan of 007 since I was between the ages of 7-10 playing Nightfire and Agent Under Fire on the original Xbox.  Still to this day I hold those two games in my heart.  My first Bond film was actually the first Bond film Dr. No and I loved it.  My favorite Bond films are Dr. No, Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice, Die Another Day, License to Kill, Casino Royale, & Quantum of Solace.  I have yet to see Skyfall, can't wait for Spectre.

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen,

The next group of characters I am going to be talking about are:

https://thekingofhate.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2015_07/Fantastic_Four.jpg.326152459f78ee64700a3e36bd1bbbd7.jpg

The Fantastic Four, Marvel's First Super Family

A group of characters that were so popular back in the day now they are incredibly underrated.  I love everything about them.  I have been a fan of the Fan Four since I was around 7 years old watching the '67 cartoon, '94 cartoon, '06 cartoon, & reading a graphic novel consisting of the first 10 issues from the '60s.  I love all of the characters especially Ben Grimm.  He is my favorite because he is funny, tough, determined, & possesses a pure heart of gold.  I will admit I did enjoy '05 & '07 film, but I will admit the '07 film was not a great film at all.  To me I thought the actors of the Fan Four did a fine job portraying the characters.  As for the film coming out in August, I think it might do very well especially in the box office.  I can tell they are taking some things from the Ultimate Fantastic Four comics which IMO are not that bad.  Hopefully, another animated series comes out in the near future.

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen,

The next group of characters I will be talking about are:

https://thekingofhate.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2015_07/The_Kents.jpg.05b34890194de5a65995ec07b68eeba6.jpg

The Kents

Two of my favorite supporting characters of all time.  Say what you want about Superman, but if it wasn't for the Kents, Superman would not be the legend and icon that he is today.  True, compared to mortal standards, Superman is a god, but the way the Kents raised him, loved him, respected him, & tolerated him, he became the most human, humane, and vulnerable superhero of all time.  They were the reason why Kal-El became Superman not his powers.  Because of them, I am the fan of Superman you know today.  How they treated him made me idolize him.  They are the reason why Superman is the type of person we really want to be.  A person that is willing to do good & learn and teach right from wrong.  How they humanized Superman also made him a very relatable character.  Yes, I said relatable.  Just because someone possesses talent greater than your own doesn't  necessarily mean you cannot relate to that person.  In many ways, the Kents exposed the human side of Kal-El and that is great because aren't humans flawed.  The greatest of all Superman's weaknesses is not the infamous Kryptonite, his greatest weakness is that despite having all that power, Superman has failed many times in his career.  One of those times included the Imperiex Wars.  Superman failed to save the lives of the millions of people that lived in Topeka, Kansas  Don't give me that flyingaround the world and changing time crap, that was in the fucking movies okay.  Movies are different than books.  Anyways, there were times where Superman has broken his most famous code, not taking a life.  There was an instance where Kryptonian criminals from an alternate universe traveled to a parallel Earth and wiped out billions of people.  That caused Superman to break his one rule.  These instances have haunted Superman for many, many years.  Why am I mentioning these instances that involves Superman's failures and him realizing these failures?  Well, it is because of the Kents that they exposed his humanity.  Superman realizing his flaws, mistakes, & failures was the product on how the Kents raised him.  No matter how hard you try, you will not always win, and that there will be times where we might go against our own moralities.  Besides, do you think everybody realized their flaws?  When people say Superman is perfect, they for some reason think he is completely flawless.  But he is not, nobody is.  If Superman was flawless, he wouldn't make mistakes, fail, nor break his own rules.  I'll say Superman is perfect in terms of meaning that he has all of the characteristics you'd would actually want in a hero, and role model.  Every time I see Kal-El spend time with his folks, it just makes me smile.  Say what you want about Smallville, but the Kents had a great role in that series.  The Kents are a prime and perfect example of loving people willing treat people they way they want to treated.

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen,

The next character I am going to talk about is:

https://thekingofhate.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2015_07/Goku.jpg.dd8c095ac4d7ec046734122cc698f3c6.jpg

Kakurat aka Son Goku

Arguably, the most popular character of the DB franchise and one of the most popular in all of anime.  Do I think he is an interesting character? Yes.  Is he one of my all time favorites? No.  Am I outright disgusted on how outrageously and viciously bias the majority of the DBZ fanbase is?  Oh hell yes.  To me, they are almost as bad as the Batman fanbase.  Hell, I know some bias DB fans and unfortunately I go to college with them.  Look, it is without question that Goku is an immensely powerful character but he is not God almighty.  No matter how many times you push yourself, you will not beat everybody.  As the expression goes "any man can be beat on any day."  Even a god can fall.  Goku is without question a legend, an icon, and fan favorite, but people need to open up their eyes.  Now as for the whole Goku vs. Superman thing, right now I think it is a fucking joke.  It is just a bunch of whiny, bitchy, childish fans making a humongous deal out of a what if scenario.  I do think Superman encountering Goku is an interesting idea, but the fans are screwing it over.  Plus, Goku vs. Superman is not a rivalry at all.  A rivalry is something that happens between two or more people.  The only thing that should be between Goku and Superman is to draw fans, that's it.  When I think of rivalries, I think of Superman vs Lex Luthor, Batman vs the Joker, the Incredible Hulk vs. General Ross, Spider-man vs Green Goblin, Wolverine vs. Sabretooth, the New York Yankees vs. the Boston Red Sox, the New York Knicks vs. the Boston Celtics, & the New York Giants vs. the Philadelphia Eagles.  Those are actual rivalries.  For Goku and Superman to have an actual rivalry, they would have to do something to each other.  Also, Goku and Superman are from two different worlds.  Superman is from an American comic book while Goku is from a Japanese manga & anime.  Nothing more, nothing less.  They are two different characters.  Superman is all about doing the right thing while Goku is about pushing himself to become the best.  Now, am I taking anything away from Goku, No, absolutely not.  What he has done in his career speaks for itself.  If there was a hall of fame for fictional characters, do I think Goku should be inducted?  Yes, absolutely.  Personally, the whole Goku vs. Superman thing should end right now, but the way things are going it will never happen because people never learn.  I do wish that Goku gets another chance in a live action movie and hopefully the director does a better job in representing the character.  Oh and one more thing, if ScrewAttack does a Goku vs. Superman 3, boycott, boycott immediately.

Was looking foward to hear more about Goku and less about Superman vs Goku controversy. Anyways, something interesting about Goku is both his saiyan pride and his benevolence. Both of these traits have gotten Goku when dealing with villains into trouble, but not enough to make lasting consequences. His benevolence has turned many antagonists into allies that played major roles into the series. If Goku let either Piccolo or Vegeta die during their respective confrontations, the series would end. No Piccolo, Raditz destroys the earth. No Vegeta, Frieza kills everyone.

This video probably best explains the impact of no Vegeta on Namek.

I don't think there should be anymore Death Battles with Goku vs Superman anyways. I think Goku should be in a Hall of Fame for fictional characters, but not for heroes. His weaknesses haven't been tested enough against villains.

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen,

The next character I am going to talk about is:

https://thekingofhate.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2015_08/Kraven_the_Hunter.jpg.fb5c546cbb8e7ebd3927eda7e9302e48.jpg

Sergi Kravinoff aka Kraven the Hunter

Considered by many to be Spider-Man's deadliest villain.  One of my personal favorites.  Kraven was one of the many villains that actually grew on me.  The one story that made me a fan of this character was Kraven's Last Hunt.  That story made me see how determined, tenacious, & deadly Kraven is.  In that story, he hit Peter with a tranquilizer that made Peter enter a state of visualizing death and buried him alive for two weeks.  During that time, Kraven impersonated Peter and went on a killing spree and single-handedly captured Vermin, a humanoid rat-like creature.  Once Peter came back, Kraven stated he did all of this to prove to Peter that he can kill and that he is superior.  I do agree that he is an underrated character and villain.  Would I take Kraven over the Joker?  Oh hell yes.  I did enjoy his portrayal in animation especially in the '94 cartoon.  Kraven's portrayal in video games I thought were great.  IMO, he had a great role in the Amazing Spider-man 2 video game.  However, I think it is time for him to get a shot in film. To me, he really needs to be heard in film.

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen,

The next character I will talking about is:

https://thekingofhate.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2015_08/Iron_Man.jpg.9a435250e48f6cfcadc2323ece6298e1.jpg

Tony Stark aka Iron Man

One of my top 20 favorite comic book characters of all time as well as one of my top 10 favorite Marvel characters.  Great character.  Loved his portrayals in animation especially in the '94 cartoon and the Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon.  I will definitely say I have enjoyed and loved his movie franchise.  IMO, Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man.  The first film not only saved his career but also the Iron Man character.  During the Civil War, Iron Man's popularity vastly plummeted.  People called him a Nazi, dictator, tyrant, you name it.  I felt that he going to become the next Jason Todd where once he becomes incredibly unpopular the writers kill him off.  Thank God that did not happen.  Once the first film became a huge success, the Iron Man character was loved once again.  Prior to the film, RDJ was a mess.  He was a big time drug addict.  During his time in prison, he decided to turn his life and that includes becoming a politically conservative person (a rarity among Hollywood celebrities).  Ever since then, his acting career has improved as well as his public image.  What he did for that one armed boy was absolutely adorable, sweet, & kind.  I'm glad RDJ is still Iron Man.  To me, nobody can play the character better than him.

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen,

The next character I am going to be talking about is:

https://thekingofhate.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2015_08/Bane.jpg.aa6813df509319c35c4a289db17d9b65.jpg

Bane

My personal favorite Batman villain.  Nicknamed "the man who broke the bat."  An individual with both brains and brawns.  An individual that can challenge Batman intellectually.  With and without the Venom, he is stronger than Batman.  His portrayals in animation have mostly been done nicely though I was not too big on the one from the Batman.  In movies on the other hand, the one from Batman and Robin sucked while the one from the Dark Knight Rises was great.  Yes, he had that weird voice but he was a more imposing foe than the one from Batman and Robin.  Do I think the writers will improve him in later films?  Of course.  I also think his portrayals in video games have been very well especially in the Arkham Series.  Do I think there should be a Knightfall animated film?  Hell yes, but sometime in the future.  I mean, that was the story that made Bane famous and popular for so many years.  Unfortunately, you have a guy like Joker who loves to hoard the spotlight and because of that Bane does not really get the recognition he deserves.

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen,

https://thekingofhate.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2015_08/The_Flash.jpg.72139a8af410575fafdaff5fc847b78c.jpg

The Flash, the fastest man alive.

If there is one thing I've always liked about fantasy, it's speedsters.  IMO, the Flash is the greatest speedster ever created.  When I was a young boy, I've always wanted to run very fast.  One of the biggest inspirations for me to  have that dream was the Flash.  If you though Superman changing time was cheap, you haven't seen shit.  The Flash can also do that just by running fast.  He can run so fast that he could enter a world that is either a utopia or a shit hole.  The source of power that allows the Flash to do this is the Speed Force.  The Speed Force is an energy field that grants all speedsters their power in the DC Universe.  Speaking of Superman, Flash and Superman have raced many times and at one pint the Flash told him that during those races he has held back his power.  When he cut loose, he ran right past Supes.  Flash is widely regarded as one of the greatest legacy heroes of all time.  I have the upmost love and respect for Jay Garrick, the original Flash from the Golden Age of comics, and Wally West, the third Flash from the Modern Age of comics.  However, my favorite Flash is Barry Allen, the second Flash from the Silver Age of comics.  Yes, Wally West is the most powerful Flash, but Barry is second to him.  I love Barry's background and his version of the Flash mythology the most.  The Flashes' portrayal in animation has been done very well.  Unfortunately, I did not watch the entire thing of the highly acclaimed CW series,  but I am looking forward to watching it in the future.  I do hope his movie in the DC Shared Universe becomes a success.  I also wish for him to get his own animated series.  Unfortunately, that might not happen thanks to DC continuously riding on Batman's dick.

Yep, Wally is the most powerful Flash. While all speedsters are powered by the force, West mainlines the power from the force itself and cannot be cut off from the source, unlike the others. Wally is the fastest of all the Flashes perhaps rivaled only by his mentor, Barry Allen. He is arguably one of the fastest beings that has ever existed.

https://thekingofhate.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2015_08/Professor_X.jpg.25d349c4894ea60bd7ccdbe318268f40.jpg

Professor Charles Xavier

The founder of one of the greatest superhero teams of all time, the X-Men.  Fell in love with this character since I watched the '92 animated series.  IMO, nobody portrays this character better than Patrick Stewart.  He is in many ways like mutant Martin Luther King Jr while Magneto is like Malcolm X.  Yes, Xavier does have his issues like hiding romantic feelings for Jean as she grew older and hotter, & hiding from both Cyclops and Havok that Vulcan is their long lost brother, but he is without question a great man with a greater vision.  His power does seem quite freaky considering the fact he can enter your mind and do what he wants to it.  My experiences with this character has taught me the full importance of dignity and respect.

Hello guys,

The next character I am going to talk about is:

He-Man.thumb.jpg.d502f08a6441457466c0f3d

Prince Adam aka He-Man, the strongest man in the Universe.

"I HAVE THE POWER!!!"  Man, that brings me back childhood memories.  I got my first glance of this character when I watched the '03 animated series.  Awesome series by the way.  He-Man like Superman, gives me immense optimism and inspiration.  He is a type of guy that would rather talk things out first before getting physical.  You know, if people think Superman, Hulk, Thor, & Goku were "OP" (lol), He-Man is not far behind.  As a matter of fact, I'd say he is within Hulk's, Thor's and especially Superman's levels.  As a matter of fact, Superman and He-Man have fought twice and both of those fights were narrowly close.  Either that is terrible writing (yeah right) or both characters are powerhouse beasts.  The first fight took place during the Silver Age/Bronze Age years of the Pre-Crisis era of DC.  Superman and He-Man engaged in an intense hand-to-hand battle and narrowly Superman won.  The second fight took place between the Justice League and Masters of the Universe cross-over in the New 52.  He-Man defeated Superman by using magic while noticing how physically powerful Superman was.  I would pay money to see these characters engage in an arm-wrestling match.  That match would be so intense, they would literally take the Earth out of Orbit.  Anyways, I hope his upcoming movie gives him justice because the movie from the '80s was not that good.  I would also love to see another animated series as well as getting a video game or at least appear in a video game.

Hi guys,

Sorry for the long wait.  The next character I am going to talk about is:

Gwen_Stacy.thumb.jpg.4ac1a94d613a0ecd425

Gwen Stacy

Betty Brant may be Spidey's first girlfriend, but Gwen will always be his first true love.  Is she one of my favorites?  No.  Do I like her?  Absolutely.  Her death helped bring the Silver Age of comics to an end.  Did it get me emotional?  Yes.  In the eighth issue of Marvels, it has been revealed that she died from the shock of the fall before her neck snapped.  I will admit, their relationship I felt was very complicated and too on-and-off, but she meant a lot to Peter.  In Spider-Man Blue, where Peter pulls out a recorder that talks about how he and Gwen fell in love, we find out MJ has been listening the whole time and instead of getting angry, she shows sympathy and understanding and tells Peter, "Tell Gwen I miss her too."  That showcases that despite being rivals, MJ and Gwen were good friends.  I will also admit that the Stacy Twins storyline was messed up.  For the Green Goblin to pregnate her before killing her gives you more reasons to hate the Goblin.  Plus, that was a crazy move for the writers to do that.  I was glad she was used better in the Amazing Spider-Man movies than in Spider-Man 3.  Emma Stone did a fine job portraying the character.  I loved the fact that in the Spectacular Spider-Man show that she was the main love interest.  It would've been cool if they became a couple once the cartoon continued.  I loved it when the writers made her an alternate version of Spider-Girl in the comics and gave her her own series.

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen,

I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving.  The next character I am going to be talking about is:

Hercules.jpg.e4db8534af478f4710a5cc8db7f

Hercules, the Olympian demigod/god of strength

The Superman before Superman.  The Incredible Hulk before the Incredible Hulk.  The world's first defined superhero.  "A true hero is not measured by his strength, but by the strength of his heart."  A great quote from the 1997 animated Disney film.   Without question, one of the most powerful characters in all of fantasy.  The original big time powerhouse.  Because of his mythology, other heroes would soon follow like Superman, the Hulk, Thor, and many others.  Hercules was a type of person that would go out defend the weak, attend the sick, help the homeless and poor, and the feed the hungry.  The 1997 Disney animated film helped me become a big fan of this character.  This character has had a big time impact on our pop culture.  Really, really awesome character.  Honestly though, he need better live action films, more animated series (the best was without question the Disney one), and for once a video game.  P.S. his God of War counterpart sucked.

I like Superman and Spiderman since those are the only ones i've read stuff about (Death and return of Superman period, and the first 100 issues of the original Spiderman). I'd love to hear your take on Venom, my personal favourite.

I'm not very knowledgable on western comics , to be honest. But for Superman, it's the death and return of Superman. It's the only story i've read on him. Loved every moment of it. I really wanted to read more, but i got discouraged pretty quickly, cause not only was it hard to even find what i was looking for, that story took part in a lot of different character's issues (i found a torrent that compiled everything that was relevant).

For Spiderman, i'd have to say it's Spider Island. It's the only more recent story i've read involving Spiderman and it's the only one i remember a little. Introduced me to Venom.

You said "western comics", I'm guessing you live on the east (you know the Eurasia area)?
